Exhibit - The Tree Shadow Series

Artist Statement

The Tree Shadow Series was painted from 2012-13. During this time, I was shifting from the life of a full time house painter and part time artist to a full time artist. Many times while on a job site I would see a wonderful tree shadow in the client's yard, pick up one of the painting drop cloths, lay it out on the grass and trace the shadow directly onto it. It would then be taken to the studio and turned into a painting.

Through color and texture I hope to evoke the beauty and emotional possibilities of shadow and light. These paintings were a conscious attempt to connect with relatives who passed, to ask for their help and to calm myself during a time of transition.

Artist Biography

Todd Mrozinski acquired his BFA in painting from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 1997 where he was the recipient of a Fredrick Layton Scholarship and attended The New York Studio Program. He has been in solo and group exhibitions nationwide and his work is in various public and private collections. The natural elements, as well as his home and everyday objects are his subject matter. In 2012, after the death of his father, Todd started the Shadow Series in which each painting was started by tracing the cast shadow of his subjects directly onto the canvas.

Todd's work is produced in series and each one relates symbolically to his life experience and grows out of inspiration. He and his wife, Renee Bebeau, have a studio in The Nut Factory, Milwaukee, WI. Todd was the 2015-16 Pfister Artist-in-Residence and curator of The Pfister Pop-Up Gallery. He has shown at Portrait Society Gallery, Milwaukee, WI, Frank Juarez Gallery, Sheboygan, WI and in the spring of 2018 will have a 30 year Retrospective at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts in Fond du Lac, WI. He is currently represented by The Woodman/Shimko Gallery, Provincetown, MA and Palm Springs, CA.
